DESCRIPTION
Shostakovich's Waltz No. 4 from Four Waltzes for Flute, Clarinet and Piano is a light-hearted, no-frills composition that is suitable for the wind quintet. Waltz No. 4 also appears in Shostakovich's The Gadfly Suite, Op. 97a as Barrel Organ Waltz.
The character of the piece is straight-forward and the wind quintet will do well in this piece by maintaining a steady and energetic tempo without slowing. Being less taxing for the lower voices, this movement is a good complement to a fuller wind quintet programme.
