Mozart - 'Duett Papageno, Papagena' for Wind Quintet
DESCRIPTION
Mozart's "Pa … pa … pa ..." is an duet between Papageno and Papagena in act 2 scene 10 of The Magic Flute, K. 620., where they sing about their love for each other and dream about having many children of their own.
This particular duet by Mozart is especially suitable for the wind quintet because of the numerous playful articulation that the winds are able to bring out. The bassoon plays Papageno's part while the oboe plays Papagena's part in their original entirety. The decision for this double-reed duet is made so that similarities in character of the articulations and lyricism can be forged. Pay special attention to the frequent and characteristic "pa" syllable that is likened as a light but accented note on the oboe and bassoon.
