Gruber - Silent Night for Wind Quintet
DESCRIPTION
Silent Night is a popular Christmas carol composed by Franz Xavier Gruber in 1818 with lyrics by Joseph Mohr. In 2011, Silent Night was declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an intangible cultural heritage.
Vocal quintet Pentatonix first arranged for a ccapella and now it has been transcribed for wind quintet consisting of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon.
This arrangement is especially quiet and delicate, portraying the stillness, hope and peace of Silent Night. Wind quintets playing this arrangement could do well with a soft touch to the tone with minimal vibrato. Play the supporting harmony lines warmly, like the cuddling with your loved ones around the fireplace during winter on Christmas day.
