Giraud - Sous le Ciel de Paris for Wind Quintet
[NOVEMEBER 2015: DEDICATED TO THE PEOPLE OF PARIS]
Sous le Ciel de Paris (Under the Sky of Paris) is a French song composed by Hubert Giraud with lyrics by Jean Dréjac for the 1951 French film of the same name. Sous le Ciel de Paris was notably recorded by Édith Piaf, a French cabaret singer, songwriter and actress who became widely regarded as France's national diva, as well as being one of France's greatest international stars.
Sous le Ciel de Paris has been arranged for Wind Quintet, with all instruments taking turns to play the lush and sensuous melody. The variation of the melody for oboe was inspired by the virtuosic piece "Le Api" written for oboe and piano by Antonio Pasculli.
