Pop music for woodwind quintet

Ok I have to admit, I do not have much pop music arranged for woodwind / wind quintet. But I am working on it.

Few things I look out for when deciding which pop music to arrange for woodwind / wind quintet:

1. Suitability: Not all pop music are suitable to be played by a wind quintet. So I have to decide which ones will sound good on wind quintet or not. There are just some songs that are meant to by sung vocally and will never, never sound good when played by a wind quintet.

2. Mass appeal: Frankly speaking, 99.9% of pop music die off and fail to remain popular, so there is no value in arranging for a woodwind / wind quintet. If people don't even want to listen to them in its original form, why would they listen to it played by a woodwind / wind quintet? For this reason, I will likely only go for oldies, evergreens, or those with mass appeal that withstands the test of time. I'm talking about the Frank Sinatras, Disney themes, movie soundtracks, perhaps some Christmas classics. You get the idea.

3. Musical value: some pop music are frankly full of good musical ideas that is a worthwhile pursuit for a woodwind / wind quintet. This criteria is only a bonus. The first two criteria must be fulfilled before musical value is discussed.

Do check out my catalog and see if you can find pop music that I have arranged!
